Love the concept of different elevator pitches depending on the length of the trip (5 vs. 50 floors) and given attention spans these days, probably the 5 floor version will be used more often. Takes me back years ago when I asked a client if he had his elevator pitch ready and did he want to work on one? He confidently told me he did have one and was already prepared. Okay, I invited. Hit me with it! "I was born in 1969 in Melbourne Australia" he started and I could feel the need for my poker face to appear as he went on.... "So my first job was at fifteen, and I...." and so it went. 15 minutes later he finished and looked at me proudly. That's it? I smiled. "Well", he admitted "I've cut it down a bit for you because you know me". This would have had to be one slow elevator or one very very tall building! All to often, people make it about their past accomplishments and never tie it back to the interviewer's needs! This will be helpful to many who don't know how to answer this question!
